5.      INSTALLATION

Preparatory Work: Prior to applying the sealant, take precautions to protect building occupants, pedestrians, vehicles, metal, glass, anodized aluminum, foliage, painted, and/or all non-masonry surfaces.  Use polyethylene or other tested material for protecting surfaces that are not to be sealed.  Avoid breathing fumes as with any solvent-based product.  When applying to occupied buildings, cover air intakes and air conditioning vents, which may carry the product or fumes.  Air handling equipment should be shut down throughout the application process and remain covered until surfaces are visibly dry or until odor has dissipated.  Maintain adequate ventilation when working on interior surfaces.

Surface Preparation: Surfaces to be treated must be clean, dry, and free from oil, dirt, grease, efflorescence, form release or any other coating which may inhibit penetration and adhesion of Professional® Water Sealant & Anti-Graffitiant.  Allow cleaned surfaces to dry completely.  For surfaces that have been power-washed, allow a minimum of 72 hours drying time. Allow a minimum of 48 hours drying time after it has rained. Concrete and masonry should cure for 28 days before application.  Caulking should be completed and cured prior to application. Damaged mortar joints should be re-pointed prior to sealant application. Extremely dense concrete surfaces should be prepared using soda, sand, or shot blasting to facilitate penetration.

Surface & Air Temperatures: Product application must not be initiated during inclement weather, when precipitation appears imminent, or when frozen moisture is present in substrate. Application should be completed at least twelve hours before onset of precipitation. Professional® Water Sealant & Anti-Graffitiant may be applied at any temperature. Optimum surface and air temperature ranges for application are between 40º and 90º F. When applied at temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, the product will cure at a slower rate.

6.      APPLICATION INFORMATION

Test Area: ALWAYS TEST surface in an inconspicuous area prior to application to determine suitability.  Apply graffiti resistant coatings to test panels in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. Allow 5 days curing time prior to applying graffiti paint to test panels. Apply graffiti paint to test panels and allow at least 24 hours longer for paint to cure. Apply cleaner to test for ease of removal of graffiti. Do not begin full-scale application until test panels are inspected and approved by the architect.

Color Enhancement: Once applied, PROFESSIONAL® Water Sealant Anti-Graffitiant dries to a clear flat finish and in some cases may enhance or darken the surface appearance. A slight sheen may result on dense substrates. Apply to an inconspicuous area to test for aesthetics.

TWO FORMULATIONS TO SOLVE YOUR GRAFFITI PROBLEMS

Super Strength

15% Solids by Volume

Extra Strength

8% Solids by Volume

These two formulations insure proper coverage for varying porosities of substrates. NOTE: A two-coat application is required to establish an impenetrable barrier against graffiti. The first coat, in the two-coat process, is always Super Strength. The second coat is either Super or Extra Strength, depending on the porosity of the substrate.

Sealant Information: Do not thin, dilute or alter product in any way. PROFESSIONAL® Water Sealant Anti-Graffitiant will dry to the touch in approximately two hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Five days are required to develop full graffiti protection. Keep container tightly sealed until ready to use.

Application:

1.      Apply material using a high-volume, low pressure, pump-up sprayer (between 40-50 psi), with a fan tip and solvent resistant fittings. Roller, or brush of natural bristle or foam may be used in areas where spray application is not appropriate. Do not use Airless spray equipment.

2.      Apply in a flood coat, from top to bottom, being sure to obtain a 4 to 6 inch rundown of product from the point where the spray makes contact with the surface. Work all the way down the building covering the rundown as you go. Avoid excessive overlapping.

a.       Some substrates may require back rolling after product is applied to smooth out any rundown lines.

b.      Brush any excess product that may accumulate on ledges and other areas that may hold excess material.

3.      Second coat: Allow the surface to dry to the touch before applying a second coat (approx. 2 hours). Repeat application as described for first coat.

Coverage Rates: For the first coat, coverage rates will range between 60 to 150 sq. ft. per gallon depending upon the surface porosity and texture. Coverage rates, for the second coat, will range from 100 to 175 sq. ft. per gallon. When treating fluted, scored, and split-face block, or heavily textured surfaces, allow for reduced coverage. Coverage rates should be determined by test applications.

7.      MAINTENANCE

Graffiti Removal: Surfaces that have been properly treated with PROFESSIONAL® Water Sealant Anti-Graffitiant provide for easy removal of graffiti. Remove graffiti as soon as possible after surface has been defaced. Apply Professional Phase II Cleaner directly to the painted surface and allow it to work for 5-10 minutes. Agitate with a nylon brush and rinse thoroughly with water. A power washer (not to exceed 1400 psi) may also be used to remove graffiti. After surface has been cleaned and allowed to dry completely, it will continue to protect against graffiti penetration and permit additional cleaning cycles if necessary. NOTE: Use of any product other than Professional Phase II Cleaner to remove graffiti may damage the protective coating, thereby necessitating reapplication.

8.      SAFETY INFORMATION

1.      Avoid excessive exposure and breathing of vapor. Use with adequate ventilation. Do not take internally. Avoid contact with skin or clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid contact with open flame, electric arcs, or other hot surfaces.

2.      Wear solvent resistant gloves, goggles and an OSHA approved, properly fitted respirator during application. When required, safety belts and adequate support lines should be used.

9.      FIRST AID

INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air. If breathing has stopped administer artificial respiration. Call a physician.

SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash exposed area thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
